Two courses and a drink for £17 at the River Cafe Cafe, 26 Oct to 1 Nov, plus a chef-led pumpkin carving lunch on Friday 30 October with a £50 prize.

Children eat two courses and a drink for £17 at the River Cafe Cafe on Rainville Road over half term, from Monday 26 October to Sunday 1 November, and on Friday 30 October the cafe is running a family pumpkin carving competition over a Halloween lunch, with a chef showing children how to carve their designs.

The cafe sits next to the River Cafe restaurant at Thames Wharf, on the Thames with its own terrace. The half-term offer is one main, one dessert and one drink. For dessert, children build their own sundae: in the cafe’s words, “Kids can even design their own sundae ice cream for dessert, choose your favourite toppings and sauces to go with your stracciatella!”

What is on the kids menu

The menu the cafe has drawn up for the week lists four mains:

  • Penne pomodoro
  • Pizza margherita
  • Roast chicken with Tuscan roast potatoes
  • Prosciutto cotto and mozzarella panini

Dessert is the make-your-own ice cream sundae. The printed menu describes the deal as “2 Courses with a Soft Drink” at £17; the cafe’s own note to us calls the drink a kids cocktail. A 12.5% optional service charge is added, and the cafe asks anyone with a food allergy or special dietary requirement to tell staff.

Each child also gets a colouring sheet with the menu: a page of kitchen line drawings, from a pasta machine feeding a pot on the boil to a whole fish, a roast chicken, a pizza and a bowl of ice cream. The cafe has shared it, and you can download the colouring sheet to print at home.

Pumpkin carving on Friday 30 October

The competition runs from noon to 4pm on Friday 30 October, alongside a Halloween-themed lunch. “Little ones are invited to carve their own design guided by The River Cafe Cafe chef,” the cafe says.

Children have a special Halloween menu, which includes pumpkin ravioli, and parents get a complimentary glass of prosecco with their lunch. The winning pumpkin earns a £50 voucher to spend at the River Cafe Cafe or the River Cafe shop.

Lunch on the day must be booked in advance.
